Eco-Club is a club comprising of young SMD boys, girls, nuns and monks of the school. This club is taking almost every environmental initiative in the school. They organizes programs for the World Environment Day and World Peace Day. Though the program won't be that huge but it would be worth complimenting and now here is another step that it is taking in the school. A great one. This time they are going towards plantation. They have planted several vegetables in the school compound where it was possible for the plantation. It is also a garden formed by the Eco-Club members in 2007.
Why eco-club members work on eco-farm?
First of all, this project was started by the Eco-Club of SMD. Since understanding the problem in the Nepal to get food on time and bandh, SMD Eco-Club members decided to plant vegetables in the school for in case if there is troble getting vegetables in the near future or in emergency. Some times in the lunch, school cook vegetables that are produced in this garden. The main objectives to run this project utilize the school compound that are left unused, to learn farming in the school, to take leadership and participation, Support school, able to be self dependent.
Students also make their own fertilizer for this project. They have compost near by.
How was it possible?
The Eco-Club have divided its members into different groups and they are given a job to do in this farming. Some are responsible for the watering where as other are responsible for the fertilizer. In this way, every member of the eco club are engaged in this project. Our school gardenner, Dawa Sonam helped us as well. The seeds that Eco-Club planted here are mostly donated by our foreign donors. To make this project successful, there is the role of every Eco-Club member and SMD staffs.
